New Devotional Launch
Yay! A project we have been working for some time is now ready to share with you all! We have been looking forward to this! Our devotional is called Issues of the Heart. As the title suggest it is designed to go a little deeper into root issues and help weed out the bad and replace it with the Word. Listen for further insight into our heart behind the devotional.
Hello and welcome to Simply Edifies podcast. Our goal is to encourage women as we navigate the messiness of life through biblical studies, personal stories and practical tips that bolster our walk with Jesus daily. Thank you for joining us in our episode today.
Speaker 2:Hello and welcome back. We have taken a long break from recording episodes, kind of not intentionally. We've just kind of gotten really busy with some other projects that we've been working on and just life in general. Summertime is always really busy, especially with the kids doing summer camps and VBS and all of the things with church and it just gets a little crazy, not to mention our time difference yes, that makes it a little bit difficult sometimes I don't know how many times she said, hey, let's get together today.
Speaker 3:And I'm like, I'm, I'm at something, and she's just getting up for the morning and we're in the middle of something. It's just, it doesn't always work out very well, true, true.
Speaker 2:So anyways, this podcast is just going to be a short little intro to what we have been working on, and that is a devotional called Issues of the Heart. It is a 31-day Bible study that we have compiled together and written and, as the title suggests, the devotions have to do with root heart issues. A lot of times when we're doing I don't know, when we're going through a hard time, sometimes we look at like all of the surface problems like you know, maybe this person over here was causing an issue with me and so we kind of like deflect blame sometimes on our surroundings or the circumstances or the people in the situation, and it's really hard to take a good look at our own hearts in those situations and say, well, what is my condition in this situation? What is my role, what is, what part does my attitude play in this situation? So these are just very short devotions, one a day for a month, that kind of deal with some of those issues yeah, we've never really been very good at only addressing surface stuff.
Speaker 3:Even in our just normal conversations we talk about the weather and our you know what clothes we're buying or whatever, but it always seems to come down to just spiritual things and like deeper spiritual things, like we just don't stay on the surface very much. And that's one thing I've always loved about our friendship and some you know the good friendships I've had in my life that is like a homework of them is the fact that we just dig in deep. And I think that Christian women especially just need that. We need. Christian women especially just need that. We need. We have that desire in us, but the resources aren't always there and the French, like not everybody wants to have that conversation, not everybody.
Speaker 3:Some people are very content to keep things on the surface. It's just important to have those times where we do a really deep look at what is the actual root of what's going on and what's the heart, what's the heart issue and, um, some of the divisions I was kind of laughing as I went back through them because some of them were things that we actually a while ago and compiled them. So there are times where I'm talking about my kids when they were toddlers and now they're my oldest is 11 now but you know, these things are just as relevant, you know, when my kids were, when we were in those toddler years which we've talked about many times. They were just as relevant then as they are now, because those heart issues just don't change. Times change, situations change, but the heart of the issues don't.
Speaker 2:Right, especially when talking about relationship issues in general. Really, when, when it comes to, you want to get to the root issue so you're not constantly repeating the same problems over and over and over again in your life. You want to get to the root and you want to be able to say well, really, you know, when I take a closer look, I realized that I had pride, I had stubbornness, I had, you know, covetousness, I had whatever, and that did play a role in in that issue. And to be able to humble ourselves and just not have those same repeating offenses will just, in the long run, make our overall relationships better.
Speaker 3:Yeah, we do. We spend a lot of time just cleaning up, cleaning, uping up, putting a bow on the surface, but it's kind of. It's kind of like when you wipe down the cabinets and never, never, clean what's inside and eventually it all comes spilling out. It's always when company's over, you know. But people will find out who the real you is, one way or another, yeah if there's a couple of times my kids have you know, opened the drawer that they weren't, you know, someone's over and I'm like not that drawer, like nobody needs not that cabinet right.
Speaker 3:But you know you wouldn't know from the outside that there was all the chaos that's lurking inside um and I.
Speaker 3:I recently this came up in um, a class I was in and I just, oh man, I thought this was so perfect and just so convicting at the same time. It says, um, this people draw with nigh unto me with their mouth and honor withth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. That's Matthew 15, eight, and I thought, man, I mean, that's just, that's still so true today. And we can all, if we've been, if you've been in church, if if, even if you've only recently come to church, you can pick up the lingo really fast, you know, and you can figure out what makes you like, fit in to an extent. But God, just that's not where God's heart is. That's not what he wants from us. He wants our hearts, not our lips and our lip service. He wants true followers of him who are willing to, you know, dig deep and make changes where necessary and face the hard, face the hard truth and clean out the cabinets clean out the cabinets is a good way to put it.
Speaker 3:I have a couple cabinet projects that I've been like putting off all summer, thinking like it's going to magically take care of themselves.
Speaker 2:So yeah, just a tip there. I have been paying my children to do such projects for me. I have too, but they don't even want to see the cabinets. They're like no mom, mom, that, that's too much for me.
Speaker 3:I wrote, I wrote them out, I wrote a whole list of jobs that they could earn like extra jobs outside of their, like expected chores and like you know. They could earn so much money for each project and I guess I'm gonna have to like up the ante because it's not happening like that's.
Speaker 2:It's too little of money, mom, you gotta pay me more. It would be worth it to be honest yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2:So that's one of the things that we've been working on and we are getting ready to roll that out. You can be looking for that very, very soon here. Um, we're to kick it off with a giveaway, with some good stuff, and then the other thing that we have been working on is another podcast. However, it's for the young ones, the children. It's going to be called Simply Grow, and our kids are going to be involved in it and it's, I think it'll just be a really cute but effective way to get a little bit more Bible into your kids or grandkids or nieces and nephews life.
Speaker 2:Um, they're not going to be super long podcast, but they're going to hit on like some bible truths, some bible uh stories, some verse memorization tips and even a little bit of like a missionary blurb in there too. So even some jokes. You may have even some jokes. So, um, you can be looking forward to that as well. Yeah, all of these things, these projects we've been working on, we're excited to kind of start rolling them out here in the near future the beginning of our kids podcast.
Speaker 3:We are doing, um, pulling things from proverbs, from our proverbs study that we have available on amazon, and so if you guys have purchased that or done that we used to from the from long ago when we first rolled out that book um, if you so you might hear some familiar things and that's from that's where we're getting some of our content at the beginning. And so that devotional book for children is also on Amazon right now. It is, and which is nice, because for years we had a local businessman who printed off booklets for us and they were nice. They were booklets these are a little bit more, you know, a sturdier, more professional looking, I guess you could say, version of them, which is pretty exciting to see too.
Speaker 2:It is. Yeah, so our devotion will be on Amazon and you can just look up issues of the heart, uh, by simply edify and it should come up and you should be able to find it there. But we will be putting out the links and stuff on our Instagram and Facebook pages and, like I said, we rolling it out with a giveaway here soon and you can just be looking for that and we're excited to just get your all responses about it and hopefully it is an encouragement and it helps you in your spiritual walk, because that's really all that our prayer is is that you know we can just help you grow in Christ and just get closer to him really. So, like you mean, like simply edify right.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 3:Like that.
Speaker 2:So, anyhow, that's all we wanted.
Speaker 3:To come on and say and hopefully it won't be like three months before we have another podcast episode roll out.
Speaker 2:But no, we'll pick it back up here soon.
Speaker 1:Anyways, see you next time we are honored that you chose simply edified to be a part of your day. If this episode was a blessing to you, would you consider subscribing to our podcast as well as writing a review or giving us a rating? This would be such a help to our ministry. We would love for other people to find us, and this is one of the ways that they can thank you.
